. . The Sinclair ZX Spectrum 16K / 48K / 128K (aka TS2000 in the
US) |

(ZX Spectrum 48K) |

(ZX Spectrum 128K) |
| My
favorite games platform. I spent countless hours on the Spectrum as a
youngster. Often sneered at because of the original models rubber keyboard. This
computer can be justifiably accused of being the main reason the UK one of the most IT
literate countries in the world. The Spectrum was cheap, accessible and had an easy
to learn BASIC compiler built in. Most most importantly, despite its inferior graphics and
sound (compared to the Commodore 64, its main rival), it had the best games available at
the time. |

. . . The Sinclair ZX81 |
|
Predecessor to the ZX Spectrum, this
lovely little computer had 1K (yes, 1 Kilobyte!!!) of main memory, and black & white
text graphics only, although a 16K RAM pack was available. This was my first home
computer (<sigh> fond memories.....)

. . . The Commadore 64K |
|
Main rival to the ZX Spectrum, this
computer had a real sound chip, superior graphics and a real keyboard. It never
surpassed the Spectrum in popularity though. The games just weren't as good.
