You
wont find Jumping Jack mentioned in many articles on classic Spectrum games. There is
nothing really remarkable about it, it's just a simple, fun game from the early days of
the Spectrum. More importantly to me, it was the first game I got for my Spectrum, and it
was the first game I bought with my own money (well, my own pocket money) It's a very simple game, but not an easy one. The
object is to get Jack from the bottom of the screen to the top by jumping though holes in
the floor of a series of moving platforms. Sounds easy? Well there are two problems in
Jacks world. If he misses the hole and hits the side of the platform, he loses a life.
Also, on each level, a creature appears, who's only aim is to stop Jack in his progress up
the screen. The higher the level, the more creatures appear on screen, and the faster the
platforms move.
The ultimate aim of the games is to get to the
top of all the screens. As each screen is finished, a verse of the Jumping Jack life story
limerick is revealed. I never did get to read the whole limerick!
